Rip It BBCOR Banned In NCAA College Baseball?

We have heard from a few sources that the Rip It Prototype BBCOR baseball bat was banned by the NCAA for being too hot for BBCOR standards.

As of writing this, I have NOT been able to confirm this to be true or a rumor. From a very reliable source, I have seen a copy of a memo that was allegedly issued by NCAA regarding the ban, however I have been unable to find other evidence anywhere else.

  1. It’s being banned at some high school level tournaments for a fact. Was banned at the Dallas Mustangs Classic June 17th.

    1. Its still listed as an approved bat by the NCAA. I did see some longs balls hit in a showcase with the bat and the players seemed to think it had more pop than other BBCOR bats.

  2. any update on the Rip It BBCOR not be able to be used in HighSchool this year? I am looking for a BBCOR for my 14 year old son. I am considering the Cat 5/Rip It/ and Voodoo. Any suggestions or advice on the 3 mentioned bats?

    1. I know three people that had the Voodoo and they broke. It is a two piece bat.
Thats just me knowing that for a fact.

      1. Thanks for the input. Do you know if the DeMarini Voodoo’s that broke were 2011 or 2012?

  3. the old prototype (red one) was banned that’s why they have 2 this year the reloaded which is a sissy downed version of the new white one. the white one is the same bat that was banned from collage ball just with a new white paint job. while in the reloaded they took weight out of the barrel so you don’t have as much leverage behind the ball. thus making the performance not as good. if looking at a rip it get the white one.

  4. the white rip bat, is that legal for usssa baseball for 2012 i need an answer fast cause I bought a easton surge and i want to make sure that im buying a good bat

    1. Yes, white rip-it prototype II is a really good. It is legal for usssa, it’s the best bbcor bat I have used. And I have used the cf5, demarini voodoo, the marrucci. And the rip-it P II is more expensive than the marrucci but the best bat out there.

  5. Purchased the Red Prototype (re-certified) for my son (14 year old). He has been using it indoor for about a month now. Great bat. It has been catching the eyes of other players and they are asking about it. His instructors have asked about it – love the one piece design. Talked to a father of player that has the Prototype II (white), his son loves it. For the price and what we are seeing from the kids – Rip It bat is best BBCOR on the market for price and performance.

  6. Is the 2011 and 2012 Rip It Prototype with the BBCOR cert on the handles still legal for 2013 baseball season? My son has the red one and the white one. He loves both bats. Are they still legal for NFHS play for 2013?

    1. There was some controversy with the 2011, but it was not banned. The 2012 and 2013, along with all other BBCOR certified bats will be legal in 2013.
